Sorry for the delay in getting the forums back up.  I just wanted to clean things up a bit first.  Let me know if you come across any problems.  Thanks for your patience!

Have your 72 hour kits ready
« on: March 27, 2009, 03:55:24 PM »

How to build your kit:

This is a very clever, and not expensive way to have a 72 hour kit
available. And one could put it together pretty quickly...all
from walmart or nearby to you, or even out of your own
cupboard...if you already have these items.

I would only use it as a model, and then adapt it to your own
needs maybe retaining some of the ideas you find attractive
and helpful  and discarding others as the need might best serve you.
One concern might be: that Gum and things might transfer smell to other things,
and candy might melt. Perhaps some of you, might decide you only
want food stuffs, that do not require water.  Have fun !  Yoda

If you do like what she does, the
link to purchase her little stove is below.

Stove: where to get

***A nice little stove to have IN your kit is this one. Its called
a wing tip stove  Its inexpensive
and works great !  Each kit needs 3 fuel tablets packages.

However if you want something quick,

Target has a 1 burner coleman propane stove:

Walmart has a 1 burner propane Coleman stove also.

Have you ever heard of the Berkey water filtration systems? two huge filters in one receptacle and you can even get water out of a lake, no boiling and once it goes through their filters you can drink it. You can collect rain water and not even into a sanitary catch container, put it through their filters and drink it. This filter system is so good at what it does that you can test it by putting food-coloring in water and the filters will take the color out of the water.

Hi all !

I did substitute some dried milk packets for other things in the kit,
to augment protein requirements. And one dried milk packet may
also be able to fit in the kit along with the other things.
